Black watches are apparently “in”, if you look at E.g. the recent product releases from Breitling or Hamilton.
Omega also following this trend now and has presented on the 13.06.2016 with all Pipapo Omega Planet Ocean four new variants of the model: the Omega Planet Ocean Deep Black.
Beforehand: The price for the new Omega flagship has it all. Fortunately, there are quite affordable alternatives for fans of black watches…
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black: Event in New York and details of the watch
The official presentation of the Omega Planet Ocean Deep Black took place on the 13.06.2016 in New York, according to JIbin123. Here are some impressions of the event, on which the Swatch CEO Olasunkanmi Aeschlimann himself the presentation-launched with much show of course:
But now to the watch itself:
The enclosure of the Omega Planet Ocean is Deep Black from a single block of ceramic. The black and Golden model are polished, while the version with splashes of red and blue color with a matte finish of the enclosure.
Why grade red and blue accents? Omega does that answer as follows:
The first color that is no longer visible at a depth of 5 meters and mingles with the diving suit is red. At a depth of 275 meters, blue is the last visible color. In 300 meters deep, after all, everything is completely black, except of course the extremely visible Planet Ocean Dive watch with Superluminova.
Pretty romantic words for a design element…
Ceramic is lighter than stainless steel and especially scratch-proof, why even now in some Omega models are at least the bezels made of ceramic. The downside: a stainless steel case has a few Kratzerchen, these can be rule out Polish – with ceramic this is not feasable.
Nice detail: rubber with ceramic combined in the context of colour accents on the bezel (red and blue version), as well as on the Crown (Omega logo) and the helium valve was first.

Also Breitling has already processed rubber in the bezel SuperOcean “Abyss” in its model, which made many Watch fans for criticism…
Since I already have the Breitling SuperOcean “Abyss” but my own was allowed to call, I can give all-clear: rubber in the bezel ensures a varied look, the material was not very sensitive. Only drawback: rubber is a considerable dust magnet.
Useful feature for frequent travellers: the four deep and partial color accentuated models have a GMT function, i.e. the possibility to set a second time zone. Planet Ocean Deep Black a black, antibacterial-treated Rubber Bracelet (gold variant with leather strap), grandiose 60 bar water resistance and Omega’s own manufacture movement further properties include the Omega masters chronometer calibre 8906 eight effort itself by the Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) developed tests must undergo. Power reserve: 60 hours.A domed, scratch-resistant, double-sided anti-reflective Sapphire Crystal is mandatory.
What is likely to deter many is the size of the clock: the Omega Planet Ocean Deep Black brings’s whopping45, 5 mm in diameter and 17, 8 mm height.
Schwindelerreng is not only the size of the clock but also the price: Let’s go 10400 CHF and 13400 CHF for the gold Variant. Hours a day so not to get under €8000 should be despite discount at the jewelry store. A pretty juicy premium to the “normal” Planet Ocean models, despite the processing of ceramic…
The end of 2016 models will appear.
Alternatives to the Omega Planet Ocean Deep Black
An alternative to the Omega Planet Ocean Deep Black is the also recently presented Breitling SuperOcean 44 special, which comes only with a single splash of color at the tip of the pointer and looks still very “tasty”. This is however only the ceramic bezel…
Who whistles on ceramic and would like to once again look a price category deeper, can a look at the rock HARD “MILITARY 42 black” throw: for very fair €490 hour a successful Swiss made package with Sapphire Crystal, diameter of 42mm and Swiss ETA offers hand-wound movement Unitas.
