What does Dejection Stand for?

Before entering fully into the DEFINITION OF the term dejection, it is necessary to bet on knowing its etymological origin. In this case, we have to expose that it derives from Latin, specifically, from the verb “abbatuere”, which can be translated as “knock down” or “cast down”. In the same way, it is interesting to establish that this verbal form is the result of the sum of two perfectly differentiated words:
-The prefix “ad-“, which can be translated as “towards”.
-The verb “battuere”, which means “to hit”.

Despondency is called the act and the consequence of abate. This verb can be used to name the action of defeating, collapsing or bending or, in the maritime field, the deviation of a boat from its course by the influence of the wind.

Dejection can be defeat, elimination, dishonor, or outrage. For example: “The abatement of the technological backwardness of this country will only be achieved when the State decides to invest heavily in local industries”, “The terrorist group was weakened after the abatement of its leader”, “We have to work together to achieve the reduction of drug trafficking ”.

The notion of dejection can also be used with reference to the tiredness or exhaustion of an individual, whether spiritual or physical: “After the second goal of France, the dejection of the local team was absolute”, “The image of dejection in the residents of the city is notorious for this new flood ”, “ It is important to overcome the dejection and fight again: we cannot give up because there is still much to do ”.

In the sea, dejection is the change of course of a ship by the wind. In this case, the wind affects the dead work of the ship: that is, on the hull sector that is on the surface of the water. When a current diverts the boat due to its influence on the live work (the submerged sector), there is talk of drift and not of dejection.

It should be noted that abatement is expressed as the angular difference that exists between the true heading of the boat and the resulting heading due to the action of the wind.

In the culinary field, use is also made of the term that we are now addressing. Specifically, it is used with the expression temperature abatement. It is used to refer to the use of the article called a blast chiller, which aims to ensure that a product is at a suitable temperature to prevent the risk of bacteria developing being increased.

In other words, it is a process in favor of food security. However, keep in mind that the dejection itself is about rapidly cooling the food that has just been made. For what, besides the mentioned objective? To ensure that the life of what has been prepared is extended and that it can be preserved in the best possible way.

There are two types of abatement: the positive, go from 90º to 3º, and the negative, which consists of passing the food from 90º to 18º.
